PAWS

by Patricia Lake Famulatte

El Pobre de Asis A.C. is a legal non-profit Mexican organization established by Gracie Gracida, a Peņasco school physiologist. She started this overwhelming project 5 years ago by fighting the system and making it happen, and in January 2001 it became a Legal Non-Profit Mexican Organization. This means if you live in Rocky Point and pay taxes to Hacienda (Mexican version of IRS) as we do, then  we are a tax write-off for you. I can assure you we are the only legal animal- associated facility in Peņasco.

To date we have held 6 continuous spay/neuter clinics in 2001 and have another scheduled in March. These are free to the Mexican residents of Puerto Peņasco. We ask donations from those who can afford it. A

Tucson veterinarian has offered his skills for sterilization in March, and we are asking for more volunteer vets. Just notify me or Norma Myers in Tucson.

Future Goals

·                     continuation of spay/neuter clinics

·                     euthanasia campaign and spay/neuter release program

·                     introduction of animal education into the school system

Norma Myers meets with 6 different schools at the end of February,to speak with them about our animal issues and hand out literature to educate our children and their families. It's not going to happen overnight, folks, but this all makes a difference.

Memory Wall Tiles are available by calling me or stop and pick up a order form at Old Port Galeria next to Lily's, where I set up and hand out newletters for El Pobre on the weekends. Stop by and say hi.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT. We can't do it without our American friends.
