Overview: A private, gated master-planned golf
and recreational community in Puerto
Penasco, Sonora, Mexico.
Location: Five miles north of Puerto Penasco in the
Mexican state of Sonora. Laguna del Mar is 60 miles south of the U.S. border.
Size: Laguna del Mar covers a total of 3,262 acres.
Phase A consists of 896 acres, with Phase B covering 587 acres.
Homes: A total of 360 home sites are available in
Phase A, ranging in size from one-quarter acre to one-half acre. Prices range
from $145,000 to $350,000. All of the lots in Phase A are on the fairway or the
water.
Golf: Championship golf will be available on the
18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature course scheduled to open in June 2001. A second
signature course is also planned.
Jack Nicklaus: Widely recognized as the greatest golfer of all time,
Nicklaus has also made his mark as a golf course designer renowned for such courses
as Desert Mountain, Desert Highlands, and Muirfield Village.
Developer: The community is being developed by Laguna del Mar RSC SA
de CV, a partnership of Mexican and U.S. investors that is an example of the benefits
of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Amenities: In addition to golf and recreational amenities
at the beach club, there will be a 900-acre private lagoon for swimming and snorkeling;
an ocean reef (which will create the lagoon) ideal for scuba diving and a full
service
marina catering to throse who wish to explore the Sea of Cortez.
Utilities: Alliant Energy is building and operating U.S.-quality utility
and infrastructure services at Laguna del Mar, including electric power, drinking
water, wastewater, telecommunications and streets.
Membership: Memberships in the Laguna del Mar Golf
Club will be available at levels varying from $5,000 for social memberships to
$30,000 for recallable full memberships for non-property owners.
